Hearing aids in Boca Raton

We fit hearing aids from Oticon, Phonak, ReSound, Signia, Starkey, and Widex. We are independent, so what we recommend is based on your hearing and your life rather than on a supplier agreement.

Already wearing hearing aids from somewhere else? We service those too.

What the choice depends on

Six things we work through with you. Only the first one comes off the audiogram.

Your hearingThe configuration of the loss across frequencies, not just its severity.
Your handsBattery doors, controls, and cleaning routines have to be manageable.
Your eyesVision changes how much you read from a face, which changes what the devices need to do.
Your roomsA quiet house and a loud restaurant are different problems.
Your phonePairing, streaming, and updates, set up with you before you leave.
Your seasonIf you spend half the year up north, visits get clustered around when you are here.

How it goes

Start with a testNothing is recommended before your hearing is measured. How an evaluation works
Narrow it togetherSix manufacturers, with real differences in how they handle noise, speech, and streaming. We tell you which of those differences matter for you and which are marketing.
Fit and programProgrammed to your audiogram first, then verified against what you report hearing once they are in your ears.
We adjust from thereYou wear them where you actually live rather than in our office, and we tune them to what you find. Adjustments are included.

If you have tinnitus

There is no universal cure for tinnitus. What there is, is management, and for a lot of people that runs through the hearing aids themselves.

Masking built into the deviceSeveral manufacturers build tinnitus masking into their hearing aids. It plays a low sound that some patients find makes the ringing less noticeable.
Understanding what it isWe go through how your tinnitus presents, whether it is constant or intermittent, one ear or both, and what is actually known about the condition.
Guidance and resourcesIncluding which management options have evidence behind them and which do not.
A referral when it needs oneTinnitus that starts suddenly, affects one ear only, or arrives with dizziness should be seen by a physician, and we will tell you so.

Then it stops being about the device.

Adjustments, cleanings, software updates, and phone pairing carry on for as long as you own the hearing aids, and for our patients there is no charge for any of it. The warranty is three years. The service is forever.

Questions about hearing aids

Do hearing aids help with tinnitus?+
For many people, yes. Several manufacturers build tinnitus masking into their hearing aids: a low sound that can make the ringing less noticeable. It is not a cure, but some patients find it reduces how much they notice it. Whether it suits you depends on your hearing and on what your tinnitus is doing.
Which brands do you fit?+
Oticon, Phonak, ReSound, Signia, Starkey, and Widex. We are independent, which means no manufacturer sets what we recommend.
How do you decide what to recommend?+
Your hearing test, how you actually spend your days, how well your hands manage small controls, how your eyesight is, and what your phone is. Two people with similar audiograms often need different devices.
What happens after the fitting?+
You come back. We see our patients at least every three months for cleanings, adjustments, and software updates, and there is no charge for any of it.
What about over-the-counter hearing aids, or AirPods?+
For mild hearing loss they can be a reasonable place to start, and we are glad they get people thinking about their hearing sooner. What they cannot do is fit your specific hearing, your dexterity, and your life, or change with you over time. Bring in whatever you are using or considering and we will give you an honest read.
Do you publish prices?+
No, because what people need varies too much for a price list to be useful. What we will tell you is what something costs before you commit to it, and we do not add charges afterwards.
